Youth Activities


Miami Youth Center
(Open year around)

The center provides many after school and weekend activities for the youth of the community. Some of these activities include foosball, computers, ping pong, basketball, and assistance with their homework. The youth center is currently open Tuesday through Friday from 3:00 - 6:00 PM.


Miami Youth Center Dances
(Once a month during the year)
Miami Youth Center dance

These dances are held once a month usually the first Friday of the month. These are adult supervised dances with teenagers assisting with supervision and are also the DJ's. All music played at these dances has been screened and contains no profanity. These dances are usually attended by children in the 3rd through 8th grade levels. Cost to attend is usually $2.00 - $3.00 but some dances have free entrance if the student wears a particular style of clothing (favorite sports team, etc…) or brings in 2 cans of food for charity.


Community Youth Basketball League (CYBL)
(January - March)

This activity is actually three leagues of basketball. Open for youth in grades K - 6th. The league is broken down into K - 2nd grades, 3rd & 4th grades and a 5th - 6th grade divisions. This is a coed league with child in the entire area participating. All participants receive a team t-shirt and an award at the end of the season. Youth are instructed in the basic fundamentals of basketball with games scheduled one or two times per week during their respective season. Cost is $25.00 per child with additional family children receiving a discounted price.


Miami Hostetler Pool
(May through September)

The Hostetler pool is open during the summer months with many events planned around pools usage. These events include open swimming, water volleyball, aerobics and swimming lessons. The pool also offers pool parties and other special activities like movie nights and splash bashes. Cost varies depending on activity.


Summer Camp
(June and July)

This camp is for youth in grades 3rd through 6th with many activities planned including a week long gardening course put on by the community's Master Gardeners. This summer camp is held during the mornings from 8:00 - noon.


P. E. in the Pool
(May and September)

This activity has the recreation department working with Inspiration, Las Lomas and Lee Kornegay schools to provide physical education classes for their students in the Miami Hostetler Pool. This is an enriching activity that provides all participants an extended use of the pool. This program is provided with no additional cost to the community.


Campfire Kids
(September through May)

This organization meets at the Miami Youth Center. These activities are for youth in the 2nd through 6th grade level. This program provides an educational component along with craft activities. Throughout the year the program also goes on outings around the community and camping trips.


Bicycle Rodeo
(September)

This event is held in the street in front of the Miami Youth Center and provides instruction on the safe use of bicycles. The Miami Police Department is also available to register all bicycles that participate. During the rodeo many challenging riding activities are presented.


Haunted House
(October)
Miami haunted house

The Miami Recreation Department has put on a haunted house at the Miami Hostetler Pool for the past 6 years. The haunted house is constructed by area youth and most characters in the haunted house are these same youth. This event has over 200 people passing through its doors every year.


Small Town Christmas
(December)

An annual event that provides the youth of the community a free fun filled day that includes a visit with Santa. If participants bring two cans of food, they will receive a picture with Santa, a stocking filled with goodies and a small gift. During the day, there will also be a free lunch for everyone attending, music by local groups and games for all children attending. This entire day is free for everyone attending.

Adult volleyball league runs from January to May and also a summer league (times vary).


Fishing

In less than 40 minute drive from downtown Miami is some of the best fishing in the country. Roosevelt Lake is known for the best Crape fishing in the nation. Both San Carlos Lake and Roosevelt Lake have Bass and many other game fish.


Golf

Apache Stronghold Golf Course (928- 475-7800) was voted as the best public golf course in Arizona. Located 14 miles from Miami (5 miles East of Globe). The Cobre Valle Country Club Golf Course (928-473-2542) is a very nice 18-hole golf course located only 2 miles from Miami.


Recreation

Boating, fishing and hiking areas are located near Miami Arizona.
